Survey Says...Whistleblowers Are The Best at Finding Corporate Fraud
In a recent University of Chicago study, researchers determined (again) that whistleblowers are the best tool for fighting corporate fraud. One unfortunate, but not surprising, finding was that of whistleblowers whose identity was revealed, 82% of them were either forced from their position or quit under duress. This new research comes on the heels of another study done by Price Waterhouse which found that whistleblowers expose more fraud than anyone, including corporate auditors or the SEC.
I thought I was doing the only ethical, necessary thing possible by turning in my director that was stealing money from the hospital where we worked. My job (Construction Management Dept. Assistant & department (CM) were closed down 3 months later because there would be no more construction at the hospital. Construction is in full swing (never stopped, just named the dept. Facilities instead of Construction Management) Administration was very embarrassed over my findings and was afraid I would find more (and I did) problem areas. Millions of $$ in a budget that was never audited, until I took over the books. Little did I know that no one wanted my audit.
