Employers frequently engage in retaliation and undermining tactics toward whistleblowers that can lead to high levels of anxiety and depression, according to a recent article in the Financial Times.

Lawyers for whistleblowers say most employers try to suppress internal complaints to avoid legal exposure leading to anxiety, depression, and other forms of mental distress. Suppression often involves actions like maliciously finding fault, to sustained campaigns of petty slights and obstructions, to seeding rumors that the victim is unhinged. These actions can lead to whistleblowers questioning their judgment and even their sanity.
